Neo Medical Diagnostics in the Ghetto

Abstract

Health is Wealth, but self medication is a common practice in Nigeria which often result to reduced health outcomes and economic waste, with over 52% of Nigerians involved in it.

Neo Medical Diagnostics in the Ghetto is a 5 days free medical check-up event for the Jakpa community in Effurun, where patients will be issued NFT as ticket pass to benefit from the programme. This will be an awesome drive towards mass adoption of N3 and also an opportunity to show how the blockchain can be used to incentivize altruistic events.

Description

Self Medication is a common practice in Nigeria which often result to reduced health outcomes, increased antimicrobial resistance and economic waste. Self-medication may also impact on the health of individuals negatively by way of toxicological and pharmacological risks associated with the improper use of medicines. Nigeria already had a high prevalence number before the COVID-19 pandemic, varying between 52.1 and 92.3%, thus there is the need for regular medical check ups.

Neo Medical Diagnostics in the Ghetto will provide NFT incentives, to serve as an opportunity for people living below the poverty line of less than 5 USD per day to access free Medical Check-Ups using NFT as ticket pass to benefit from the programme. This event will be held for 5 days in a ghetto community called Jakpa in Effurun, Delta state of Nigeria. This 5 days activities will be done using the CodeUp Diagnostics and Laboratory Center located in Effurun with 2 medical doctors on ground.

Our goal is to encourage regular medical check-ups, and attend to 100 patients within this 5 days. The core dependencies of this project is NFT, Smart Contracts, Medical Laboratory and Personnel. This event will attract the young and elderly people, as it will be an awesome drive towards mass adoption of N3 by a cross section of different age brackets, also it is an opportunity to show how the blockchain can be used to incentivize altruistic events.

All patients for the 5 days events will be shown how to create their wallet on OneGate towards holding their NFT ticket pass. The NFT will be developed using the NEP-11 Standard (https://github.com/neo-project/proposals/blob/master/nep-11.mediawiki) and it will be open sourced to the NEO community.

Features

• Token transfer is not allowed.
• Each NFT will belong to an epoch. Every medical check-ups event starts a new epoch.
• Only epoch admin (Medical Laboratory Personnel) can mint NFT to an address.
• An epoch can only start when 50 $NEO (this will be an adjustable parameter) is deposited to the contract address.
• Special token transfers are allowed for 24 hours when the NFT owner can provide proof to the epoch admin that wallet belong to them.
• Allows only a maximum balance of one per epoch for every address.

Motivation

CodeUp Diagnostics and Laboratory Center have done similar free community medical services in the past but without integrating the blockchain technology, also we intend to encourage regular medical check-up by Nigerians but with the application of blockchain, towards scaling the project with Neo. Event Planning and Coordination: This has to do with the cost that will cover for event branding and digital marketing as well as other logistics that will be involved in the Neo Medical Diagnostics in the Ghetto event arrangement.

Budget Plan

Total budget requested is 1500 NEO ($10,350 USD) at 1 NEO equals $6.9 USD. This fund will be used to cover the cost of Web Application Design and Development, Smart Contract Development and NFT Design, Medical Laboratory Equipment and Personnel, as well as the entire event planning and coordination.
