Quick summary

The Mobile option in the Editor View menu is currently missing when editing posts and pages from the Default view (or Calypso dashboard).

Steps to reproduce

  1. Open the dashboard of any simple site.
  2. Click on Pages or Posts and ensure you are on the Default view (or Calypso dashboard).
  3. Click any page or post and wait for the Editor to load.
  4. Click on the “View” icon (the silhouette of an open laptop) at the top right of the screen.

What you expected to happen

All Editor Views (Desktop, Tablet and Mobile) should be shown.

Looks like this CSS rule is the culprit:

@media (min-width: 782px) {
  .components-dropdown-menu__menu:first-child .components-menu-group:first-child .components-button:last-of-type {
    display: none;
  }
}

Available workarounds?

Yes, easy to implement

Platform (Simple and/or Atomic)

Simple

Logs or notes

  • Reported in 8228013-zen
  • Workaround is to switch to Classic view before editing posts / pages.
  • Issue doesn't occur on atomic sites as Calypso post / page links are automatically redirected to WP Admin versions.

Thanks so much for the report @jorpdesigns I couldn't replicate this on my Android tablet or phone? Can you still replicate this? It sounds like both you and the user could see the issue? Can you tell us which device you were using so we can test it on that?

The Mobile view options seem to be available even of narrow screens.

I am going to close this but please feel free to open if you can still reproduce it @jorpdesigns.
