Feature Request: Add URL back to blog post as first hyperlink in ActivityPub version of blog post
What
This is the URL of one of my wordpress blog posts as seen in mastodon: https://mastodon.social/@[email protected]/115231970626062400
When I open that post in mastodon there is no clickable URL in that article that will take me to the original blog post.
The clickable URL in that post, shown in a previewed form at the bottom of the mastodon post, is the first clickable URL in the blog post.
It would be nice if a clickable "original blog post" hyperlink was added as the first hyperlink of the formatted ActivityPub post, because then mastodon would provide a previewed clickable link in the post that can open the original blog post.
Why
To be able to open the original blog post with a mouseclick in mastodon.
How
Add a link back to the original blog post as the first HTML hyperlink in the formatted ActivityPub post created from the blog post
Hey @steinarb 👋
the idea of the plugin is, to seamlessly integrate into the fediverse world. everyone should be able to interact with the content directly where they have subscribed to it. that is why no other platform has backlinks to their content. and if a user wants to visit the original site, they can do that through the menu.
what is your specific usecase for such a link? why do you think people want to leave mastodon (or their client of choice) to visit the site?
Hello @pfefferle and thank you for responding.
My usecase is that a link back to the blog was the first thing I looked for when looking at the blog post and I was kind of disappointed when there wasn't one.
(It is possible to find the blog post by copying the mastodon URL of the post into an incognito browser and click on the URL there, but not very convenient. Alternatively if you don't have a user on mastodon social and click on the URL under"What" above, you get to the originl blog post)
There is a formatted link out of the post, because mastodon picks up the first URL in a post and creates a preview from the OpenGraph tags found at the URL (if present), so I thought it would be neat and non-intrusive if the first link found in the mastodon article was a link back to the blog post.
I was hoping for this too.
