[Theme] Alonso: Footer Credit reflects Customizer for AT sites, Site Editor for Simple sites

Open ariel-maidana opened this issue 3 years ago • 2 comments

Quick summary

Changing the footer credit type from Appearance ---> Customize ---> Footer credit has no effect on simple sites with the Alonso theme.

Steps to reproduce

  1. Activate Alonso on a simple site.
  2. Go to Appearance ---> Customize ---> Footer credit and change the footer credit type. For example, select the "WordPress.com logo", and save the settings.
  3. Check the live site, and see it still says "Proudly Powered by WordPress"

What you expected to happen

To see a WordPress.com logo in the footer.

What actually happened

On the user's site, I didn't see any footer credit. On my test site, I still saw "Proudly powered by Wordpress".

📌 SCRUBBING

  • Tested on Simple ✴️
  • Tested on AT ✴️
  • Replicable on Core - No

📌 FINDINGS/SCREENSHOTS/VIDEO

  • From my tests, it appears the Footer Credit is editable only by using the Site Editor on a simple test site (but not the Customizer), and only by using the Customizer on AT sites, and not the Site Editor.

AT SITE

On my AT site, I cannot see Appearance > Customize, but navigating to Appearance > Additional CSS > Back > Site Identity and editing the footer there impacted the live site.

SIMPLE SITE

On my Simple site, I can see Appearance > Customize, but editing the footer credit has no impact on the preview or live site. However, editing the footer credit in the Site Editor does update the live site.

The ticket 5468239-zen came out of hold. I've recommended a few similar themes for their review.

Replicated in 5717155-zd-woothemes with the Russell theme as well (simple site). Some changes can be made in the Site Editor, but the W logo option is completely unavailable on simple sites using themes affected by this.

Also noteworthy that the default footer credits on these themes (and likely others) link to WordPress.org rather than https://wordpress.com/?ref=footer_custom_powered like non-block themes do. (Compare https://heverdemo.wordpress.com/ vs. https://russelldemo.wordpress.com/)
