🧩 Studio is very slow and export/migration doesn't work (v1.6.0)

Originally posted by xakoch October 12, 2025 Hey everyone 👋

I've found two big issues with WordPress Studio (v1.6.0):

  1. Performance — Studio runs very slow, even slower than Hostinger's online hosting. My PC specs: i3-12100F | 16GB RAM | NVMe SSD 512GB | Windows 11 Pro So it's not a hardware issue — LocalWP runs much faster on the same system.

  2. Export / Migration

    • Duplicator fails during backup creation with a critical error.
    • All-in-One WP Migration exports fine, but import on Hostinger fails and never completes.

At this point, I can't migrate or export my Studio site at all. Is there any working solution or recommended method to move a Studio site to another host?

Thanks! 🙏

@xakoch thanks for the report!

We are aware of this issue and working on improving Studio's performance

Would you be able to share some logs with us about the failed export and imports so we can try to replicate it?

@xakoch Could you share some more details on which areas are being affected by the slow performance? For example, is it slow when navigating the WordPress admin, editing pages, or during initial site creation and setup? While we investigate, it might be worth checking Studio's Windows permissions, as this can sometimes impact performance: WordPress Studio FAQ

I'm pretty sure I'm having a similar issue. I'm not quite sure how to describe it other than it's ... slow. Like, pages take a really really long time to load in the admin. I frequently get a "bad gateway" message when navigating wp-admin. I'll reload the page and it will be slow, but will load successfully. It also seems like parts of the application are failing to load sometimes. Like, the theme.json file seems to take a very long time to load. I'll bring up stylebook and it will sit in a default state for 30+ seconds before the theme styles will catch up and render.

Here's a screen share of what it's like in real time just to give you an idea of how slow it is.

Studio is truly super slow and buggy... I can confirm the slow experiense shown in the above video happened to me too many times before. related: https://github.com/Automattic/studio/discussions/2069 i created a discusson to just share instead of a proper issue report.

Duplicator doesn't work with Studio. This is also another issue with Studio. Check this out: https://developer.wordpress.com/docs/developer-tools/studio/import-export/#2-how-to-export-a-site-from-wordpress-studio

I think I managed to track down the source of my particular issue. It seems like my Sophos antivirus software was doing something to inspect the connection to the playground server. That was causing the slowdown and the errors. When I shut it all off load times went from around 15s to under 1s. I tried to get it to exclude the Host IP or URL of my studio site but it didn't make a difference. Only shutting everything off got things to run smoothly. Not sure if that's a Sophos problem or if it's a Studio problem but I'm 99% sure that was the source of my problems—super slow loading and lots of 502 Bad Gateway errors.

@dabowman thank you for sharing more details, that is really helpful! We will investigate and post any updates.
