Apple Watch: focus lost

Open pocketcasts opened this issue 2 years ago • 3 comments

Issue:

The Watch app is losing focus when a call comes in or is made from the Apple Watch. When this happens the audio/control focus is not focused on the iPhone instead.

Expected Use: Focus should remain on the Apple Watch instead of switching over to the iPhone.

User Contact:

There's an issue with playback on the Watch when it's being used independently from the phone. Any time a phone call is made, or comes in on the watch, the app switches its view to "On the Phone", instead of staying "On the Watch". Which means any attempt to navigate files, or the audio position, or volume, is being attempted to the "Now Playing" for the phone instead of for the watch, even through the phone isn't present (And isn't even powered on).

Other Info:

I'm not sure if this is a bug on our end or just how iOS/watchOS works. I was able to reproduce this on my end though.

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Turn off phone to make sure audio is only playing from the Watch.
  2. Open Pocket Casts on the Apple Watch
  3. Start a Podcast
  4. Make a call from another phone or device so it comes through on the Apple Watch
  5. The Now Playing option will then kick over to the iPhone even if it's turned off
  6. Switch back to the Watch option in the now playing section

When playing podcast from Apple Watch to AirPods, if a WhatsApp message comes in and Siri reads it out via the announce function then the podcast resumes from the phone after that , happens everytime

+1

Seems like in general when another app sends an alert sound (like radard warning app as well) the pocket casts app stops playing rather than continuing with reduced sound level. (Seen at the mobile phoe version) Same is at the watch with the alert sound from fitness app.

A few weeks ago, auto-resume after alerts stopped working properly for me. If I set a timer on my watch, playback never resumes when I stop the timer alert. This is very frustrating as I have a series of stretches I need to do a few times a day and using my watch’s timer is best (it’s silent). I’ve been listening to some episodes using Apple Podcasts to avoid the problem. 🙁 I think this started with the update that added folders for Plus subscribers. I’m currently running:– Pocket Casts 7.53.1– iOS 17.2.1 / iPhone 13 Pro (was happening with 17.1, too)– watchOS 8.8.1 / Series 3 watch– AirPods 3, firmware 6A317

@leandroalonso does this sound related or would you prefer a new issue?
