Marking as Played with Bulk Selection Archives Episodes despite Auto Archive Setting Set to "Never"

Even if a podcast has "Archive played episodes" set to "Never," marking its episodes as played using bulk selection will archive them. Marking an episode as played without bulk selection does not archive it. The issue cannot be replicated in the iOS app.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Set global Auto Archive settings under Profile > Settings (gear icon) > Auto archive to "Archive played episodes: After playing".
  2. Set custom Auto Archive settings for a podcast to "Archive played episodes: Never".
  3. Using bulk selection, mark an episode as played.
  4. Episode is marked as played and archived.

I wasn't able to reproduce this in the latest beta. Can you still see this issue @igotdes? Or maybe I'm messing up the steps to reproduce.

Hello, @mchowning! I'm still able to reproduce this as of version 7.20.0 (8147). I added an extra step:

  1. Set global Auto Archive settings under Profile > Settings (gear icon) > Auto archive to "Archive played episodes: After playing".

Can you see if you're able to replicate the issue now?

This is still being reported on 7.49.

I’ve had this issue for a while but finally getting round to posting it. I’m using android app version 7.49 currently and the issue still persists.

My issue is that when using the multiselect (long holding 1 episode then selecting others) and then clicking the mark as played button that appears in the blue bar at the top; episodes are archived despite setting the custom setting to never archive after playing.

Tbh in my opinion I prefer that multiselect overrides this but maby it should be an advanced setting for multiselect to ignore overrides🤔
