PR: Irregular error occurrence when exporting to IFC
Problem Description
When I export IFC from Revit below error sometimes occurs and no external IFC file is created. (I use IFC 2x3 Coordination View 2.0, but the error also occurs in different IFC versions)
When I export some projects(up to 40mb), but only with non-spatial elements(up to 5000) the error doesn´t occur. But when I select "Export rooms, areas and spaces in 3D views" in the Export IFC Modify setup, on the same projects, the error occurs. So it would seem that somehow the spatial elements (up to 400) are causing the error sometimes.
I've ran some tests with different projects up to 65mb (with the same template and setup for export and export classes) and succeeded with exporting projects containing up to 10000 non-spatial elements and up to 3000 spatial elements (both areas and rooms), so the file/project size can't be the problem.
I've tried cropping the 3D view cf. "Export only elements visible in view", and adjusted the view filter. I've also unloaded and removed all external links and imported categories, but the export keeps crashing and I can't figure out a solution to why this happens to specific projects.
Any help would be highly apreciated. //Kasper

It would seem that one of the rooms has an unexpected condition. If you could send us the file we could investigate and fix. angel . velez @ autodesk . com
Hello Angel,
I've narrowed down the problem a bit since yesterday. When I delete the areas, the export doesn't crash, i.e. it has something to do with the areas?
I've sent the file via the provided e-mail.
Angel sent me the file, but I cannot reproduce the issue in 2024. I used your settings as you showed above. Could you try installing the latest IFC exporter? It is version 22.7.
Hello Parrela, I've downloaded and installed the 22.7 version, but I dont see how that would affect the export in Revit 2024 as it is a extension for Revit 2022? And since Revit is not backwards compatible, it would require me export the file to IFC without areas, open in Revit 2022 and then re-create the areas and then maybe, I would be able to export to IFC with areas in a downgraded Revit version. I'm sorry, but seems like a poor work around.
EDIT: The export still crashes after installing IFC version 22.7. EDIT: When setting Areas export class to IfcSpace the export is successful, but fails when exporting it as IfcBuildingStorey.
Sorry, got mixed up with another item. I should have said the latest 2024, which is 2024.2.
@parrela I've listed my current versions in the original post being the latest for Revit 2024
Current Revit version: v2024.2.1 Current IFC for Revit addon version: v. 24.1.1.6
@AngelVelezSosa @parrela do you have the possibility/ ressources to investigate this irregular error occurrence further?
did you try the 2024.2 IFC?
@parrela I can't find any 2024.2 IFC updates on https://manage.autodesk.com/products/updates, as mentioned before I have the 2024.2.1 version of Revit and the 24.1.1.6 version of the IFC Revit addon - which both are seeming to be the latest versions for Revit 2024.................
try here: https://github.com/Autodesk/revit-ifc/releases/tag/IFC_v24.2.0
@parrela I've installed the 24.2 IFC from the provided link, but sadly I still get the error.
@AngelVelezSosa @parrela do you have the possibility/ ressources to investigate this irregular error occurrence further?
maybe you could send a Revit journal that is from the session where you had the error?
