PR: Beam Openings get displaced in IFC4 (along Z-Axis); geometry is wrong (not in 2x3...)

Open louistrue opened this issue 1 year ago • 17 comments

Problem Description

When using any IFC4 export settings, some openings in steel beams get exported with wrong Z-height: SteelOpenings_IFC4.ifc.txt =>wrong openings are on lowest levels image

What we tested on multiple machines, using Rvt2023 and 2024:

  • changing beam families =>some openings were corrected, but not all
  • changing opening families =>no change
  • recreating all openings (Ctrl.C, Ctrl.V) =>most openings were corrected, but not all
  • IFC4x3, ReferenceView etc =>no change
  • IFC2x3 =>everything is fine

using 2x3 export settings, every single one is perfect: SteelOpenings_IFC2x3.ifc.txt image

we export the openings as "Building Element Parts": image

but for some openings, an "Opening" is still created, which gets then positioned wrong: image

We tested on several exporter versions, with no change: 23.3.1.0 to 24.2.0.49 While we really don´t want to go back to 2x3, having geometrically wrong openings doesnt really leave us with much choice.

I am using Win11 23H2...

Let me get QA to check on this.

@louistrue I don't see it on my test file. Could you add a small Revit model that shows it? Thanks! Andy

Hi Andy @parrela

sent test files per mail a while ago...

Cheers

Happy to resend, @parrela

Just let me know...

@louistrue thanks, could you resend? it must have gotten lost in the end of year rush.

Done 👍

I can reproduce this in a simplified model. [REVIT-218471]

Any updates on this, @parrela ? Would really like to switch back to ifc4 but this is giving me some headache. Especially since I am starting to doubt whether similar stuff occurred in other projects without getting caught. We would have all been scratching our heads on site if these beam openings would have been fabricated...

It's scheduled to be looked at in the near future. There are some other similar cases we will try and work on with it. No idea how the investigation will go though.

Thanks

Is there any update on this? It's been a while, @parrela...

It's astonishing how little effort is being put into fixing a geometry issue that's been reproduced!

Your software is certified for export, yet it produces clearly false geometry, and nothing is done to fix it. What else do I have to do so you care???

Looking at my open issues here is generally quite frustrating. Makes me question why I still bother...

It's been nearly a year. Seriously? @AngelVelezSosa @JOuellette-Autodesk

louistrue avatar Aug 29 '24 19:08 louistrue

@parrela ?

louistrue avatar Sep 11 '24 19:09 louistrue

I know it is frustrating but I can't say when something will get fixed. I can say that we know the issue but not when we can release it. There are a lot of moving parts that all affect each other.
