Big - odd spacing around external link icon

What I did

User reports no external link / strange spacing around external link icon on 2 different browsers (different problems).

I've only been able to verify the second bug (Firefox). This may relate to #451.

IE11 on Windows 7 Enterprise (Service Pack 1)

User says they are not running a privacy blocker (which often explains disappearing SVGs).
