Bug - sidenav doesn't go to the side in IE8

Open maxious opened this issue 8 years ago • 7 comments

What I did

Loaded http://gov-au-ui-kit.apps.staging.digital.gov.au

What browser and device I was using

IE 8.0.6001.18702, Windows XP

What I expected to see

Sidebar is on the side

What I saw

virtualbox_ie8 - winxp_05_08_2016_12_51_39

Additional information (optional)

KSS doesn't even seem to apply .ie8 classes like the example files but that still wouldn't help.

@maxious personally I think this is reasonable to ignore for Progressive Enhancement reasons

@maxious I think we can probably do better and offer an alternative layout for IE8 (and other older browsers). How urgent is a fix for IE8 for you?

@TrebBrennan and I have talked about serving up a 'foundation' style that provides very basic layout and typography. We have to have a bigger discussion as a team to decide on an approach.

Fine with me for now - just something to flag for your foundation style :)

A related (larger issue?) — from what I can tell from the screenshot — is that this breaks the grid alignment, centering the content space? If so, should we fix that, and track the decision to deal with how the nav then stacks separately?

What do you think @petronbot

Getting this up as a crossbrowser bug to consider on our roadmap
