Installation blocked on Windows 11 by MS Defender SmartScreen

Open MonikaBarget opened this issue 5 months ago • 1 comments

I am trying to install the tool on a Windows 11 machine that is managed by my university and the installation is blocked with the following notification:

Microsoft Defender SmartScreen prevented an unrecognised app from starting. Running this app might put your PC > at risk.

I have had similar messages on Windows 10 when trying to install OS software, but I was usually able to override it. I have full admin rights on my machine. However, it no longer seems possible at all to install software that Microsoft Defender SmartScreen does not recognise.

I know this is not an issue that the audiveris developers need to address as it's clearly a Microsoft problem, but I am hoping for other Microsoft users to be able to suggest a solution.

@MonikaBarget I can't help you on Windows 11, because I'm locked on Windows 10 (Thanks to MicroSoft). Let's hope someone on this forum will provide a solution.

Anyway , if your anti-virus software prevents you to run the installer program, you could simply build & run the application on your own. Not a big deal, see the section on Building from sources.
