Seems to be doing a bit better now, but it was still very slow. And the layout is... _unusual_. :laughing: 
Honestly, this really confuses me because I thought the purpose of simplification was eventually to get a single non-calc value. But I can't argue with the results.

There are a couple of tests crashing on CI. They both look like flakes but I'm re-running CI just in case. Otherwise this looks good.
Pasting it here so it's easier to find. I would have thought that `document->update_layout();` a few lines above would ensure that there's a document element though, this is very odd....
