appimage-builder --generate fails when dpkg-query -S output contains "diversion from"

On ubuntu 24.04.1, dpkg -S /lib64/ld-linux-x86-64.so.2 gives this output:

diversion by libc6 from: /lib64/ld-linux-x86-64.so.2
diversion by libc6 to: /lib64/ld-linux-x86-64.so.2.usr-is-merged

appimage-builder then runs (something like) dpkg-query -W "diversion by libc6 from"

This prints a warning: "WARNING:dpkg-query:dpkg-query: no packages found matching diversion by libc6 from" and dpkg-query fails with exit code 1. That causes appimage-builder to fail with "Package lockup failed" and a stack trace, producing no output file.
