[Bug] Unable to create an account and login to appflowy cloud/ Typo in the AI Settings app

Open Artemis1-0 opened this issue 9 months ago • 4 comments

Bug Description

I decided to try appflowy cloud but when I tried to login and generate the magic link the email wasn't coming through. I was on 0.8.3 so I assumed I needed to update the app. And guess what?

Image

I CAN'T FIND THE LOGIN IN BUTTON!

But in all seriousness, I think this is a bug, but if I'm just being an idiot and not able to read instructions, I'd be happy if someone were able to fix this issue.

Also, while writing this up, I realised that the Ai Settings page for anonymous users has yet to be updated to reflect the "My Account" page being renamed to "Account and App"

How to Reproduce

Just open appflowy as an anonymous user and then try to login in to appflowy cloud. Also go to Ai settings while in anonymous to see the typo.

Expected Behavior

I should see a button to login to appflowy cloud.

Operating System

Windows 11 24H2

AppFlowy Version(s)

0.8.8

Additional Context

I've been using appflowy since like 0.2.4 so that may play a role in this issue.

One thing to take note, is that the data on local/anonymous mode, and the data on appflowy cloud, are independent from each other. So make sure to make a copy of your data if you wish to transfer them. Also, if you were on 0.2.4, and is now upgrading to 0.8.8, do check if there is any lost of data on the local/anonymous mode too, as there have been quite a bit of data format changes throughout the versions.

As for the issue which you mention: that would happen if you choose "Local" on "Cloud Settings" ->"Cloud Server". You would need to switch to "AppFlowy Cloud" in order to login.

Firstly, I have been upgrading AppFlowy semi-regularly since 0.2.4, so I don't believe there's any data loss. I can get a list of all versions that I've used. Still, I'll double check if I have any data loss.

Secondly, I'll backup my data and switch it over to AppFlowy Cloud. Maybe it's just me but this seems a hit confusing from a UX standpoint. I'd be willing to write up a section on the documentation when this is sorted because at present there is no mention of switching from anonymous mode to AppFlowy Cloud.

Finally, from my understanding, I can save the data to google drive and use that as my cloud storage whatever you may call it (if you couldn't tell, I'm still quite inexperienced in all this programming stuff). Please correct me if I'n wrong.

I'm currently not able to try these changes for a little bit but I'll check these out when I'm able to.

Thank you so much and have a good one! 🙂

@Artemis1-0 , please don't use Google Drive. It will corrupt your appflowy data.

Please backup your data folder by following these steps:

  1. Go to Settings -> Manage Data -> Open folder Image

  2. Copy the grandparent folder of your current directory. In my screenshot example, I'd backup the folder named test

  3. Paste it into a local directory (NO google drive)

Follow these steps to log in

  1. Please then go to Settings -> Cloud Settings -> Cloud Server
  2. Choose AppFlowy Cloud
  3. Restart
  4. Now you should be in another local workspace which will be under your Cloud account data folder (don't worry if this looks confusing)
  5. Then go to Settings -> Account & App -> Log in

Import your data folder

  1. Find your backup folder and open it
  2. There should be at least one folder with this prefix AppFlowyDoNotRename
  3. Open AppFlowy then go to Settings -> Manage Data -> Import data -> Browse file -> locate the AppFlowyDoNotRename folder
  4. You will then find your data in the sidebar under a page with this prefix import

We're happy to help if you run into any issues.

Thank you so much for the feedback. I'm moving and my isp switched to the new place so my pc's been offline all week :) . I'm now on Appflowy cloud and 'll try and get it working on my phone later. Thanks for all the help!
