[feature]: Shortcuts for websites/URLs and browser plugins

Open j7e opened this issue 4 months ago • 2 comments

Proposal

Problem 1 - site shortcuts Websites like YouTube have their own keyboard shortcuts. They aren't always convenient to discover.

Suggestion It would be great if there was a way for KeyClu to detect the active browser tab and display a list of available keyboard shortcuts for the URL. I realise this would conflict with the currently available list of shortcuts for browsers, so might need to be triggered some other way.

Problem 2 - browser plugin shortcuts Browser plugins like Raindrop and Bitwarden have their own keyboard shortcuts; however, they don't appear in the list of shortcuts for my browser (Brave).

Suggestion It would be really useful if KeyClu could identify the assigned shortcuts for active browser plugins and display a list of available keyboard shortcuts for them.

Further enhancement Sites with search features, like YouTube and DuckDuckGo, also have custom search operators (e.g. after:[date], intitle:[text]) and advanced syntax (e.g. ![query], !safeon). These also aren't always convenient to discover (or remember). Although it wouldn't strictly be shortcut-related, a further enhancement to site/URL shortcut lists would be to allow these search operators and syntax to be added to site shortcut lists. At present, there doesn't appear to be a way to add these to My Shortcuts as the input for Shortcut requires keyboard combination presses.

Hey j7e,

Thanks for the suggestion. This question was previously asked in #120. Unfortunately, the app doesn't monitor which app is active or what content is displayed, as doing so could raise privacy concerns.

While it's not a perfect solution, you can add custom shortcuts in "My Shortcuts." You can include any shortcuts you'd like (refer to the page for detailed instructions). Keep in mind that these shortcuts will be visible on any page or tab in the browser/app, as the app doesn't access any content outside of current app's menu.

I also use such shortcuts for some pages - here’s a screenshot for reference (last column).

Noted, thanks - I didn't see #120 when I searched suggestions.

I understand the reason that KeyClu doesn't monitor active apps or pages because of privacy concerns. I would just say that, as a user, those are the kinds of trade-offs I can be happy to make with applications I trust, when given the option and have enough information.

For now, I'll manually create groups and shortcuts under My Shortcuts, as suggested (thanks for the instructions and example).
