Question regarding disabling spherical harmonics for cleaner texturing

I should give the preface that I only have a surface level understanding of how GS & sugar work although I have made a few minor modifications to the prior. I'm currently working on a 1,500 4k image scene and was curious as to whether there has been testing with disabling spherical harmonics.

My initial assumption is that forcing spherical harmonics to be disabled would improve surface texturing at the cost of introducing artifacts such as a bumpier mesh due to GS utilizing moire-like artifacts to "fake" angle-dependent color.

Has anyone here done any investigation into this behavior?
