Add support for more browsers

First, thank you for this useful module! It's super convenient.

Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe.

I use Kiwi Browser because it's the best fork of Chromium that's available on Android. It supports extensions, reader mode, and more customizations.

Describe the solution you'd like

Add support for Kiwi Browser. It's open-source and you can find the repo here: https://github.com/kiwibrowser

Will consider, but not high priority.

Thank you!

I'd second that request! Kiwi browser is an excellent choice for an Android browser, and I'd love to see it supported in Webview Manager! Should have at least medium priority, though! Just my 2 cents...

my 1.5 cents...

Will ship when we release MV7 of the API, as that has the necessary infrastructure to support this.

Feature is complete on the master branch. Feature will ship in v11, which we're hoping to release by end of month.

@androidacy-user Thank you!

Could I kindly ask for when the new version will be released? End of august is long gone... I don't think this issue is closed as long as the new version is not released, sorry!

Also, on a side note, I think the volume selector timeout is set up pretty sharp! Often when installing I'm timing out and the wrong version will be installed...

Apologies, our project lead is taking some mental health time for herself and nobody else is overly familiar with both the backend and module codebase.

As I understand the master branch has mostly working close with a few quirks to be ironed out. No ETA on release yet though

So sad 😢😢 (for the mental health thingy, as I myself suffer from it too... Sorry I didn't know that!)

But does that mean I could easily download the zip from GitHub and install it????

Thank you for your quick response 😊❤️

I'm honestly not sure, I'm just a moderator myself, but I would wait for an announcement of some sort.

Thanks again for the quick reply 🤠😃 I will wait and see ....... Or maybe I will just try with my spare phone... 😃😁😜😝

Any news on the mentioned announcement? As far as I can tell from the source code the Kiwi changes have not been uploaded to master branch, but to rework branch... 😓 So my question remains slightly modified: can I download the zip from the rework brnach and install it to get Kiwi support?

I don't want to be impolite here, but under this circumstances I don't think this issue/feature request should not be closed! If it will be made available I might consider donating to androidacy, and also get rid of these annoying captchas in the process...

Have a little patience please, but I'm not quite sure why the previous mod closed the issue tbh.

Nonetheless it's waiting for v11 release which should hopefully be done by end of month.

The backend already has support for Firefox, Brave, and Kiwi in addition to bromite and chromium, with the option to use browser as WebView (which isn't guaranteed to work in all cases). Vanadium was decided against as they don't seem to provide pre-built apks and the chromium build system is a nightmare we're not familiar with.

androidacy-user avatar Oct 06 '22 10:10 androidacy-user

Bromite appears dead, which makes adding alternatives like Mulch all the more urgent.

While we do intend to rerelease WebView Manager as an app, module development is currently critical bugfix only as we refocus our efforts.

Currently we plan to launch a beta for the app in H2 2024 but it's not set in stone.
