FreePIE not launching

Open gentamatsui opened this issue 6 years ago • 32 comments

I used to be able to run FreePIE but after i deleted it and 2 months later i downloaded it again, now its not running. I check task manager and it says its running FreePIE.exe*32 but FreePIE itself is not showing up anywhere. I reinstalled it a couple of times and restarted my computer like 6 times and it still does not launch.

Have you checked it's not in tray mode? Check the system tray for a freepie icon

AndersMalmgren avatar Sep 16 '18 15:09 AndersMalmgren

Unfortunately it is not in tray mode.

You have a FreePIE.log? Its either in the program foldar if you have freepie in portable mode or in %appdata%

AndersMalmgren avatar Sep 17 '18 10:09 AndersMalmgren

Cant find the log file, in the %appdata% there is only the settings and the layout file.

gentamatsui avatar Sep 17 '18 10:09 gentamatsui

Anything in the event viewer?

AndersMalmgren avatar Sep 17 '18 10:09 AndersMalmgren

you can also try to delete the files under %appdata% and see if it resolves it. You will loose your settings though. Start with layout then settings

AndersMalmgren avatar Sep 17 '18 10:09 AndersMalmgren

I dont have any settings yet since i just reinstalled it again.

gentamatsui avatar Sep 17 '18 10:09 gentamatsui

Delete those files and let me know

AndersMalmgren avatar Sep 17 '18 11:09 AndersMalmgren

No changes.

gentamatsui avatar Sep 17 '18 11:09 gentamatsui

and event viewer?

AndersMalmgren avatar Sep 17 '18 11:09 AndersMalmgren

event viewer?

gentamatsui avatar Sep 17 '18 11:09 gentamatsui

Check the event viewer for errors or warnings etc

AndersMalmgren avatar Sep 17 '18 11:09 AndersMalmgren

nothing wrong

gentamatsui avatar Sep 17 '18 11:09 gentamatsui

Then I'm out of ideas, you have possibility to run the program from visual studio?

AndersMalmgren avatar Sep 17 '18 11:09 AndersMalmgren

I dont get why it does not show up. Its in the process in the background but not showing up anywhere.

gentamatsui avatar Sep 17 '18 11:09 gentamatsui

Im trying all kind of things and i cant get it to open. I installed it on my laptop and it runs fine but i cant run it on my main desktop and i just was it to work!

gentamatsui avatar Sep 22 '18 13:09 gentamatsui

Maybe a older version https://github.com/AndersMalmgren/FreePIE/releases

I still wonder if it could be the new tray feature that's faulty

AndersMalmgren avatar Sep 22 '18 17:09 AndersMalmgren

I tried importing the files of FreePIE from my laptop and it did not work. I installed the older version but it still runs in the process, i think there must be something stopping it from opening.

You have any custom plugins in the plugins folder? If they fail to load it should log but maybe something is wrong there

AndersMalmgren avatar Sep 23 '18 12:09 AndersMalmgren

I had a plugin before but i deleted it when i uninstalled FreePIE.

gentamatsui avatar Sep 24 '18 03:09 gentamatsui

Still trying so hard to get this to work but it just wont work. :(

gentamatsui avatar Oct 01 '18 11:10 gentamatsui

I'm out of ideas sadly. If you run in portabel mode you get the same result?

AndersMalmgren avatar Oct 01 '18 11:10 AndersMalmgren

How do i run it in portable mode?

gentamatsui avatar Oct 01 '18 13:10 gentamatsui

Any kind of programs that would stop FreePIE from launching?

gentamatsui avatar Oct 01 '18 13:10 gentamatsui

Portable is when its started from a none install folder

AndersMalmgren avatar Oct 01 '18 14:10 AndersMalmgren

Still wont launch :(

gentamatsui avatar Oct 04 '18 09:10 gentamatsui

Have anyone figured out the solution? I have the exact same error.

lehoangchibach avatar Sep 08 '22 04:09 lehoangchibach

FIRST: Try this: delete FreePIE folder in %appdata%

Reason: after crash some files might be damaged (settings)

Similar issue here: https://github.com/AndersMalmgren/FreePIE/issues/214

IF THAT WON'T HELP: If this would happen on brand new installation and you never ever had FreePIE installed, then this would be a generic software error happening, which would typically mean you don't have VC Redist installed. In that case, I would recommend installing it from here: https://archive.org/details/microsoftvisualcredistributable_202004 as recently official Microsoft website deleted several DLL files from their download site and introduced bugs in VC Redist installer 2015-2022 (labeled as Windows XP removal, but it breaks even my Visual Studio 2019 installation on Windows 10). I already reported this on official Microsoft Developer's support forum.

Hi thank you all for your help. I have tried installing all VC Redist but still nothing. I have deleted FreePie in Appdata but still nothing. When I open FreePie, there is nothing happened, no minitray icon, no pop-up, just nothing. But it does appear in Task Manager. I have tried older version too: 1.10, 1.9, 1.8 but there is still nothing for me.
