I was told that there wouldn't be much reason to do this because not many people dislike comments. However the reasoning behind this is because no one can see the dislike counter. If the dislike counter on the comments is enabled, many more people would be inclined to use it. Not to mention it would make spam comments and other such bad comments more obvious

This extension's user base is about 1% among all Youtube users. As much as accurate the dislike count prediction it can achieve, it can never change the behaviors of the vast majority of people who only want to watch videos. Consider some of them watch videos from a TV hanging up a wall in their living room, they will never care about who said what and got how many dislikes. When you don't like a video, just skip it, very much like switching TV channels as we all do all the time. Implementing comment dislikes is not impossible. It's just not viable considering not enough percentage of people care. One video may generate thousands of comments, and we need storage for all of them. Benefit doesn't justify the effort.
Storing, accessing and analyzing petabyte-scale data is corporate's work. Who pays for the hard drives?
Yes! I would love this feature, if this will be added, then all comments would have dislike count. In example: I can see how many dislikes have my friend's hate comment in my channel's video.
