Does an issue already cover this?

  • [x] I have searched for any existing issues, and didn't find any.

Issue description.

Congratulations on hitting 1 million downloads! Maybe this will inspire you to return to the modding community and continue updating the mod :D

(don't mind this being in the issues section, just wanted to be nice!)

What the?-

Maybe this will inspire you to return to the modding community and continue updating the mod :D

This is almost a year overdue, but:

Judging by the interactions with comments on other issues, I probably owe a clearer explanation on my personal stance with modding currently. This is going to be a mess of text, but the TL:DR is the only thing that's important for most reading this.

While I'm pretty dumbfounded by that fact that this mod somehow managed to get more total (CF + Modrinth) downloads than the population of a small country, this doesn't necessarily make me motivated enough to maintain Faster Random, let alone start making mods again.

All the larger mods I've tried to make/publish even post-Faster-Random suffered from really bad perfectionism, which combined with an ever-changing, quirky engine, isn't very fun to work with (especially if you could've made one massive mod out of all the unfinished content if it wasn't all on different game versions).

Additionally, some integrations requiring extra functionality with "Modrinth Friends" that I would have relied on for a simpler social mod haven't been made yet, so I haven't had any chance to make simpler mods that actually make a difference to people.

And for another nail in the coffin, my interest in Minecraft has dwindled greatly.

When the people you spend time with are more interested in things other than Minecraft, it obviously gets way harder to develop mods and playtest them (especially when they don't have a background in gaming outside of ultra 'cozy' games). This can make development boring, and way more uncertain for when things start crossing between game clients online.

Because of all this, I've abandoned programming outside of using it for personal hobbies/jobs. Without being held accountable or motivated to release mods in a timely manner, I don't really make much of substance for the community and feel a bit like an impostor.

TL:DR: I somehow got a semblance of a personal life, which killed off my interest in Minecraft and my drive to make mods. (The 'good ending' I guess?)

I will still review pull requests to my mods if needed, but I probably won't be making anything original and MC-related by myself in the foreseeable future.

I am by no means against the Minecraft modding community either, but I think the community should be more aware that developers usually don't make mods with the intent of working on them forever (I shudder at the sight of my older work).

In fact, if it wasn't for contributors from this community helping me out, this mod probably would be forgotten as a sub-50K download joke of a mod.

With that out of the way, this is essentially my offical withdrawal from the modding community. If you're reading this and happen to be a contributor to Faster Random and are interested in having ownership transferred in some way, please let me know.

Yeah, my bad for saying that — and you're right, no one can keep updating their mod forever. If you're not doing it for fun or out of interest in the game anymore (plus, making an optimization its a pain unlike adding new features into the game), it's totally understandable to focus on what you enjoy or your job instead. I mostly posted this issue just to see if the mod was going to be updated or not. Thank you for your response, and hopefully someone else will take over the mod in the future!
