Discussion and question
So I see in this https://www.reddit.com/r/archlinux/comments/16jdx2x/goodix_27c65395_passing_from_goodixfpdump_to/ the author says something related to gnome. I wonder if the fingerprint sensor works is related to DE. Also, have you tried the method in this post and it failed? I am new so please explain things in a simple way if possible. Thanks!
Hi @andrewyuyang Thanks for the suggestion I'll update the repo with this info.
Are you able to test this btw? (Assuming you have the device 27c6:5395. You can check this with the lsusb command)
Btw I decided to sell the computer, but I've contacted the seller to ask if he is able to test this. I'll update when I know more :)
I tried the script and it works! But as OP said on reddit, I don't know what to do next that will allow GNOME or your DE to use this information to unlock the laptop with your fingerprint.
My specs: Dell XPS 15 7590 Ubuntu 24.04
Thanks for the update @saltecaramel .
This still might not work but are you able to start the enrollment process with the command fprintd-enroll afterwords? This assumes you've installed this package.
I tried doing that and it's giving this error:
Impossible to enroll: GDBus.Error:net.reactivated.Fprint.Error.NoSuchDevice: No devices available
I think it's because fprintd is still looking for a driver to interact with the sensor meanwhile the python script does it differently. So I'm guessing there needs to be a way for fprintd to use the data pulled from the python script. I have no idea how to do that.
Thanks for trying! I think we'd need to wait until someone finds a way to make it work... Keep an eye on the chats in the discord room in the mean time.
Hi thanks to both of you for the update! I have joined the group chat, cheers
