Crash/Menu Bug w/ techchase training

I'm on 1.3 d3 (commit 6a328a4ac991c091c1a256baff56d87721f24d24 to be specific).

to reproduce:

1. select "Techchase training"
2. select any characters, any stage
3. press start, and choose "Move HMN"
4. press down (to where "Exit" would be on the menu")
5. all text from menu disappears, but you can still move the cursor, and hear sound effects
6. press "A" and cursor will freeze, no more sound effects, sometimes emulation screen goes black
