missing animals

Open tamas572 opened this issue 1 year ago • 9 comments

so recently i played survival with a bunch of mods in Java forge 1.20.1, Alex's mobs mod being one of them. and I noticed that most of the animals do not spawn or VERY rare. It was alexsmobs-1.22.5 , to be exact. i tried two more versions, i thought its maybe some other mods being buggy. I deletted every mod from the folder, only alex's mobs and citadel were there. And i encountered the same problem there was strangely no animals. only animals i saw are the vanilla mobs, blue jay birds, and crocodilles, and afew others however in really small number. And i dont konw if its intential or a bug, please fix.

I have the same issue. Im only seeing rhinos, blue jays, and grizzly bears no matter how much I search. If i go into creative all the eggs work properly just not naturally spawning.

i'm having the same issue and to the time im writing this, im trying to found what the hell is happening.

one alternative that im using is to use amber monoliths (which are from another mod called alex caves) to spawn the mobs naturally. it worked on a server i've played with my friends but im not 100% sure if this will work with all the ocassions.

how did you use that?

how did you use that?

basically just keep placing and breaking until the mob you want to "reahibate" appear inside the monolith. And just to remember that this block is from another mod so it might appear mobs from another mods as well

edit: Ok we have a problem. I discovered that the mobs are not spawning not because they acidentally got excessively rare, its because the natural spawn are not working at all. I tried messing with the config and tested on the fly (the most common to spawn) and even with high numbers of spawn weight, it didnt spawn once.

Which means that if the most common mob is not spawning its because it is pratically impossible that he can spawn naturally, so it does to all the other mobs with unworking natural spawning.

This is way more serious than just a spawn issue, its broken.

Ok i found an solution.

These recent days i was playing on my friends maps (we use essentials for map joining) and the mobs was spawning in his map just fine?, so i got the conclusion that this bug happens because of the launcher. What exactly happened?, idk, but i decided to completely reinstall minecraft and..IT WORKED. its a bit frustating putting my options back but im just so happy that it actually worked.

i hope i could help you guys with this same issue :), sad that this is probably the only solution for now...

I don't know a lot, but I had some experience with this in another mod issue with spawns.

Its possible that spawnrates are messed up due to a inflation of the spawn pool or a mod screwing up spawn priorities.

MCDOOM for example adds a ton of spawns to the Nether, enough that it makes other spawns rarer.

in short, it could be a bunch of spawn events littering the pool and other spawns taking priority and making rare spawns even rarer.

There is also a THIRD possibility: tag instability. A bad tag can screw up an entire list of them if not properly implemented; for example: messing up a tag that determines the proper hardess for a tool to break can cause blocks to not drop in a odd case. Load My Fucking Tags patches this issue though Im unsure if it applies to Biome tags; which could be used by Alex's mobs to check if the mob can spawn in the given biome (Why add just one individually or make a list by hand when you can easily use a tag that makes it easy to add compact for?)

This is just speculation but it be areas id look into if I was trying to hunt the source of this bug. InControl can be used to disable spawns outright and a possible tool to track spawns and even make a "crude patch" to reimpliment missing spawns

I cant thank you enough for giving this very probable explanation, i had a shit ton of mods that spawns all over the overwolrd and the nether and now it makes sense to why it happened to me. I dont have this issue anymore but i can at least be positive that someone have a good explanation of what could possibly be happening, sad that alex probably abandoned this mod so the only solution to this very specific issue is to use outsourced patches.
