Items sent through a Nether portal with the Galena Gauntlet get deleted

Sending an item with the Galena Gauntlet through a previously traversed Nether portal will completely delete the item. Doing this multiple times will begin to lag the world with reloading Minecraft stopping the lag. Going through the portal right after the item occasionally results in the item still being there but the gauntlet will have to be activated again with another item to retrieve the previous one if it is still attached. I assume this will also happen with other portals but I only checked the Nether portal.
