I wouldnt mind to be able to hide them since theyre quite confusing in middle of regular discussions. Proper support would be nice of course.

I have also this bug, I could try to look into it if nobody else has time.
Any possibility for full-black background color? I find it very helpful on OLED screen because it helps with readability, i tend to need a very high contrast at times.
Can also confirm this issue, Fairphone 5 with CalyxOS.
I think tasks.org is nowadays the more used tasks app, so reading tasks from there would be good
