probably using 2 audio tracks and volume shaper is best approach, also works with offload (probably)

if crossfade is enabled, COMM frame iTunPGAP with 0 or 1 value can be used to decide whether playback should be gapless or crossfade. If crossfade is disabled, it should always be gapless. See:
