[Concept] The Workshop
I saw this name in a reddit thread first, so credits to u/Matalya1: https://www.reddit.com/r/ModdedMinecraft/comments/ct0rej/idea_for_chisel_bits_workshop/
Anyways, here something that I might add to C&B2 in the future and I'd like to hear feedback from players to make it the best it can be.
The workshop would be a combination between a website and in-game blueprints where players could freely upload their in-game multiblock creations to the internet and even preview creations of others in-game! I think the Sims 4 gallery is the most similar to how I'd imagine this workshop, integrated directly allowing you to easily share your work.
The amount of downloads a build gets could even be a metric of populartiy to showcase cool creations.
I'm interested in adding more sharing functionality to C&B2 instead of many features other mods (like LittleTiles) already offer.
So, I'm interested in community feedback, what functionality would this system really need? How big should the maximum size of an uploadable creation be? How should selecting your build work: with a tool that looks like drap region/tape measure or a machine with GUI? Should a button to view creations of others work by having a hotkey (like advancements) that opens a full-screen web page, or should you download files from the website, put them in a folder and select which one to build in a GUI similar to the stonecutter/loom? Maybe a new button should be added to the escape menu which opens the web page on which you can click the download button to download files which are automatically scanned by the mod to appear ingame? Maybe there could be a new item where all recently downloaded designs are shown in a radial menu where you can select which one you want to place? Should you be able to place only parts of a downloaded creation, maybe creators should be able to mark certain parts as optional parts of the creation to upload/place them in segments?
Many questions indeed, but there's still some time to figure out the optimal way for this workshop system to work, it's only going to get added after everything else is done, so that's still a good few months out.
Personally, I prefer options to keep what is done ingame as vanilla-esque as possible, I want to make things in way where it'd be believable for this to be added in a future minecraft update and maybe more importantly: it needs to be intuitive and "noob-proof".
EDIT: The site can also have buttons for downloading the models as .obj or any other format to use C&B creations in external tools, do let me know which tools you'd want to use C&B blocks in so I can make sure those formats are supported!
