At this moment, a styles.css file is added by XML. Could you please use the default Magento setup for styling this extension? Use of web/css/source/_module.less with needed variables.

Moving the styles to _module.less is indeed a Magento best practice this module should follow. I've created an internal ticket and will keep you posted.
