Issue Details
Steps to reproduce:
- Open e.g. prohardver.hu, mobilarena.hu, itcafe.hu, hardverapro.hu, logout.hu, gamepod.hu with WFP network driver enabled
- It will hang right in the beginning with the following status bar message: "Transferring data from cdn.rios.hu..."
- After 1-2 minutes the site will finish loading, but the result is an incorrectly displayed website with missing assets
Expected Behavior
As an AdGuard for Windows user, I'd expect to open any websites without slow loading times and missing assets when the WFP network driver is enabled.
Actual Behavior
Whenever the WFP network driver is enabled, certain sites won't load correctly and/or some images and other elements would be omitted. I don't use VPN or antivirus apps on my PC, so I don't know what may cause this issue. Maybe Windows Security? I experienced the same when I tried to open videocardz.com, but there it was quicker and only couple of images were missing, but the status bar message in my browser was very similar: "Transferring data from cdn.videocardz.com..."

With AdGuard for Windows disabled:Additional Information
I don't use any VPN or antivirus softwares on my PC, just Windows Defender/Security with default settings. I use NextDNS for more than a year now, it is not the culprit here, since I double-checked it with and without NextDNS, the problem still persists. When I disable the WFP network driver (nothing else) the issue goes away. Everything else is the same in the settings. I also checked this in Brave Browser, same issue, so it is not Firefox related. 7.20.2 was the first version of AdGuard for Windows that I installed, and the issue was there from the beginning. I tried one of the nightly builds (5009) so maybe there already is a fix for this, but unfortunately that didn't help. I also tried "Use driver redirect mode" which fixed this issue, but then Steam won't be able to start, so I turned that off.
@ndave92 Greetings! Can't reproduce your issue with the latest (5015) nightly, can You try it and let us know, if something changed?
Also, try to reset the AdGuard's settings to defaults (You can save your settings in advance if they're valuable to You) and check the issue too.
Hi! I've already tried everything that I can think of. Resetting AdGuard to default settings didn't help. I'm currently on Nightly 36 (5016) and this issue is still present. Also tried to use AdGuard DNS, Quad9 and many others, nothing helped. The only thing that fixes my issues is turning off the WFP network driver. Since I only use Windows Security with AdGuard for Windows, can it be related? I use Windows Security and Firewall with default settings. Do you have any tips what to check?
@ndave92 This situation requires log's examination. Please, reproduce the issue with and without WFP driver according to this instruction:
- Collect the debug log as it's explained here.
- Remember the exact time when the issue was reproduced.
- Send the archive to [email protected]:
- include
[windows]keyword and5431in the subject of your email - specify the exact time when the issue occurred.
@ndave92 Oh, and before that try to switch off Windows Security firewall, let's see, if it's related.
@KolbasovAnton I sent the debug logs. Also tried it without Windows Firewall, but the issue is still there.
Unfortunately, we cannot trace any problem in the logs. Can you open DevTools (F12) and specify the exact request that hangs and take a screenshot of it?
There are several other websites, where it hangs too ("Transferring data from cdn.*").
Here is one other example:
I tested this issue on Android, MacOS, Ubuntu and I could not reproduce it anywhere else, only on Windows 11 with WFP network driver enabled. I also tested this on my other Windows 11 machine, same issue is present.
@ndave92 looks like this 500 error is a server-specific, we managed to repro it too but it has nothing to do with these hangs on transferring data. Can you expand this error, please? The next scripts cannot be loaded because of it and therefore the site is broken
That wasn't expandable unfortunately.
I tried to open the site today, and that error was not present (site is still broken though).
New screenshots:
@ndave92 looks like this has to do with CORS and the site certificate - have you tried to open this site in Chrome? You can try to re-add the certificate on Firefox using this manual https://adguard.com/kb/adguard-for-windows/solving-problems/connection-not-trusted/
@northis yeah, I reinstalled Firefox completely (that didn't help), before the screenshot was taken and forgot to add the cert. After reimporting the AdGuard cert in Firefox, this is what I got:
I also tried it in Brave... but the page loading wasn't successful. After 15 minutes or so, this is the result (still trying to load the website...):
@ndave92 can you please send AdGuard logs to us again with this Brave error? And specify the time the problem occurred.
@northis I sent you the debug logs.
@ndave92 there are lots of DNS timeout errors in the log. Can you check with system DNS or with another one (Google or Cloudflare for example)?
@northis I'm using AdGuard Home on my rpi (with AdGuard upstream DNS servers) for all of my devices at home. Before I opened this issue, I've already tested NextDNS and Quad9 on my Windows PC, but none of that fixed it, so the page loading is still hanging and the result (after a couple of minutes) is an incomplete website every single time. I don't think it's DNS related, because on Android and MacOS I'm using the same DNS servers in AdGuard and there's no issue at all. Only disabling WFP network driver fixes this issue for me.
The issue will be moved to the next version due to the expectation of a new type of driver that will be introduced in this version
