Issue Details

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Just to anable adgaurd

Actual Behavior

Recently, the sites have started to load significantly slowly. Sometimes they load quickly and sometimes they take a while to load. The same with internet players that take longer to load and sometimes load quickly. Even in the middle of a video, the video can suddenly get stuck downloading the rest of the content for viewing. The Streamio application for watching movies from torrents also gives me problems downloading the content. Feels like the internet goes through frequent disconnections causing all these situations. At first I thought it was my internet, But later I realized that it wasn't. And when I tried to pause the adguard activity, everything returned to full action.

So the corrent version have a major bug.

Expected Behavior

Like i wrote in actual Behavior.

Screenshots

I'll show you a video when i'll be able to catch it on.

@ORI123456 To troubleshoot this issue, we need to get the app logs.

Here's what we need you to do:

  1. Collect the debug log as it's explained here.
  2. Remember the exact time when the issue was reproduced. We will need it to find the corresponding records in the log file.
  3. Send the archive to [email protected] and mention this issue number in the subject.

KolbasovAnton avatar Nov 20 '23 15:11 KolbasovAnton

So before i submit that bug post i removed extra filters that was added automatically and it seems to have solved the problem. what means, that one of the filters that were automatically added caused the problem. so i will have to wait a bit more until i will be able to reproduce the bug.

ORI123456 avatar Nov 21 '23 05:11 ORI123456

@ORI123456 OK! Please, let us know, when You'll send logs with your bug.

KolbasovAnton avatar Nov 21 '23 07:11 KolbasovAnton

Ok i giving you 2 logs! I will just say that I added back the filters I removed which are: Russian, German, Chinese, Dutch and Japanese filters.

  1. It was at 3:09 AM, and the problem it showed was a no internet connection page for a mere sec and then redirected me to the page i desired.
  2. it was at 3:12 AM, and it slowed down the loadtime a pages.

ORI123456 avatar Nov 22 '23 01:11 ORI123456

@ORI123456 Thank You! We'll examine the logs. I edited your comment, because logs can contain private information (that's why we ask to mail them to [email protected]).

KolbasovAnton avatar Nov 22 '23 13:11 KolbasovAnton

@ORI123456 right now, I can offer You to upgrade AdGuard to latest nightly version and see, if it solves your problem. Run AdGuard - Settings - General settings - change "Update channel" from "Release" to "Nightly". Go to "About" tab and click "Update". You'll be updated to most up-to-date version of our program. Please, let me know about the results.

KolbasovAnton avatar Nov 22 '23 15:11 KolbasovAnton

Just for info, part of the problem that happens to me is refresh problems on websites that need to be refreshed with writing changes, such as google translate and wiki pages. This means that when you edit a caption in Google Translate, you need the translation of the caption to change itself on the other side. And also the pages preview in editing wiki pages should refresh itself to adjust the preview to the changes you made. In both of these cases I encountered errors that did not allow these pages to refresh and adjust themselves. It showed an error message when it tried to refresh. And now I got an error in Google Translate "after updating to the latest nightly". It doesn't always happen, but it does happen from time to time.

ORI123456 avatar Nov 22 '23 16:11 ORI123456

I also have slow loading, but it started happening after updating to Firefox 120, in the patch notes they changed the directory of the certificates. Maybe it has to do with that?

knasiotis avatar Nov 23 '23 05:11 knasiotis

@ORI123456 certainly, we want to look at this errors! Please, reproduce and record them through logs, like the last time. Write down the exact time of error and send them to our mail [email protected]. I also ask You to record one more log, when You turn the AG off and all these operations described by You in previous comment, works fine.

Here's also some tips for You to try:

  1. Try to work with AG default settings (Settings - General settings - Reset settings to default). If everything will be fine, add the custom filters You using once more.
  2. Try another DNS server (Settings - DNS Protection - choose any server other than "System default").
  3. Try to turn off DNS protection at all (Settings - DNS Protection - turn the switch off).

KolbasovAnton avatar Nov 23 '23 08:11 KolbasovAnton

@knasiotis Hello! If Firefox has some issues with certificates, try to re-install them manually: https://adguard.com/kb/adguard-for-windows/solving-problems/connection-not-trusted/#potential-security-risk-error-in-firefox-based-browsers

KolbasovAnton avatar Nov 23 '23 08:11 KolbasovAnton

@KolbasovAnton I think that those errors that I mentioned are the same as the first log i sent you. In both cases the page failed to reach the destination immediately while loading, because it encountered an error. That's why I think it's unnecessary to give you more logs unless you still want it.
In the meantime I'm using the free adgurad app which works better.

ORI123456 avatar Nov 23 '23 08:11 ORI123456

@ORI123456 frankly, we don't see any errors in previous logs, that's why I ask You to record another. By all this errors You mean "Internet connection error", right? And it appears, when You try to refresh page? Anyway, try the tips I wrote in previous comment.

KolbasovAnton avatar Nov 23 '23 08:11 KolbasovAnton

OK, I'll bring more logs

ORI123456 avatar Nov 23 '23 09:11 ORI123456

@KolbasovAnton Ok! I think i know why i had the slow loading problem. i have used the adguard free extension from edge store with the adguard app by mistake, and the use of both together causes a slowdown. I will check things out for a few more days and see if it really is just that or not.

Edit: After I removed the free app, the situation improved, but I still encountered a slowdown in loading a web player (before starting it). I sent the log to the email that you mentioned.

ORI123456 avatar Nov 25 '23 17:11 ORI123456

@ORI123456 Hello! Can You please record a short screencast/video of this slowdown in web player? For clarity, how it looks like.

KolbasovAnton avatar Nov 27 '23 10:11 KolbasovAnton

@ORI123456 Hello, a quick reminder, that we'll be glad to see the screencast to solve your problem.

Alex-302 avatar Dec 01 '23 23:12 Alex-302

@KolbasovAnton I don't know why, but it hasn't happened again since. Maybe it had to do with two things.

  1. I accidentally had the free Adguard expansion along with the regular software, and that caused the slowdown.
  2. I had a certain filter that created a problem

I have removed both and no problems for now. I continued to wait to see if the problem would return but so far it has not returned so I don't know what to do. And all this time I used and still using Version 1.15.1, and not a nighly version because the nightly version showed a worse situation (such as even slower loading time and it didn't filter YouTube properly)

Do you want me to add back those two that I mentioned, and record a video of the problem?

ORI123456 avatar Dec 02 '23 17:12 ORI123456

@KolbasovAnton Like a karma it happened to me just now. watch that video and compare the speed of the site's loading. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JLo4o0qSL9s (The last site in the video, is empty regardless of adguard)

With web players is more or less the same thing, taking too much time to load. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pRJjinyJSzk

ORI123456 avatar Dec 02 '23 21:12 ORI123456

@ORI123456 Try to compare network performance with and without AdGuard, like on this screenshot. Is it strikingly different?

@ORI123456 We have released a new beta yesterday - https://github.com/AdguardTeam/AdguardForWindows/releases/tag/v7.16.0-beta-1, try it out. Maybe, it will show better results for You.

KolbasovAnton avatar Dec 05 '23 09:12 KolbasovAnton

@KolbasovAnton I tried now but it didn't show any change.

ORI123456 avatar Dec 05 '23 12:12 ORI123456

@ORI123456 Try to switch DNS protection off at all and turn back logging level to default. It might increase the speed.

KolbasovAnton avatar Dec 05 '23 16:12 KolbasovAnton

@ORI123456 Try to switch DNS protection off at all and turn back logging level to default. It might increase the speed.

@KolbasovAnton I tried it but it didn't work.

However, I tried to turn off features in the network TAB, and the result I got is this:

When i disabled the WFP network driver and restart pc, it made things worse When i disabled the HTTPS filter it solves the speed problem (sometimes).

Just now following all these tests I no longer experience the problem. Now, that problem occurs from time to time and it can stop or start occurring at any given time, So i'll need more time to verify those results if you want to me verify it.

I'm using the beta 1 version of adguard on that

Edit: @KolbasovAnton I'm sorry but the results are inconclusive. I tried my best to find a way to reproduce it, but there isn't.

However you can break from the slow loading by:

  1. disabling adguard
  2. and then disabling the HTTPS filter
  3. then re-enabling it
  4. and after that re-enabling the adguard software.

Sometimes it works, but still after sometime the problem comes back
