Settings panel opens at login

Open einsteinbqat opened this issue 3 years ago • 5 comments

I know macOS Ventura is not released yet, so you guys don't really have to support it or fix bugs that might be related to it, but every since installing Ventura (latest public beta, 13.0 Beta (22A5331f)) yesterday on my MBA (MacBook Air) M2, the Settings panel/window and the dock icon appear at every login instead of being hidden.

I'm using AdGuard for Safari Version 1.11.7 (220) from the TestFlight app.

@einsteinbqat Hi! Sounds like a bug. Could you please provide the logs so we can take a look?

  1. Reproduce the issue and remember the exact time when it happened;
  2. Open the extension settings --> Export logs and system info;
  3. Send the archive to [email protected] and mention this issue number in the subject.

I restarted my Mac exactly at 14:44:00. I logged back in at 14:44:49. The Adguard for Safari launched and opened up somewhere between 14:44:55 and 14:44:58. The archived was sent by email as requested.

Hi!

I did it a second time. Restarted at 15:04:00. Logged back in at 15:00:44. Adguard for Safari launched at 15:04:46. The Settings windows/panel opened up at 15:04:49.

The settings panel also opens seemingly randomly, or possibly every couple days for me. It may be tied to the 48 hour update window, I'm not sure. It's quite frustrating though, given that this is meant to stop popups ; )

I am also on ventura. I can also send logs next time it happens if that is helpful

kristojorg avatar Sep 26 '22 16:09 kristojorg

I’m having the same issue. the settings panel opens at login and several times throughout the day

lyramsr avatar Nov 24 '22 14:11 lyramsr

This has started happening again. Every morning I come back to my Mac and the settings panel is open again. A bit frustrating. No need to send a log, just don't open the panel after an update please.

Perifractic avatar Dec 02 '22 19:12 Perifractic

I have the same problem with the settings panel opening at random times. Annoying that I need a popup blocker for a popup blocker.

envague avatar Dec 03 '22 18:12 envague

@envague @Perifractic Can you guys both confirm, the settings panel opens at random times, not only at login?

Also could you check the state of this checkbox on your devices? Even if the 'Launch at login' option is disabled in-app, but this checkbox is marked when you log out and AdGuard for Safari is running in the background, it can run at login.

Must be some confusion. I am not rebooting the Mac, so that checkbox (which is not checked) is not related to this sudden issue.

The settings panel is open every time I come back to my computer after the display sleeps. Again no reboot has taken place. It does not only happen at login. It happens repeatedly.

Perifractic avatar Dec 05 '22 18:12 Perifractic

@Perifractic @envague @einsteinbqat @lyramsr @kristojorg Correct me if I'm wrong, please. So, AdGuard for Safari is running in the background (all windows are closed, but the app keeps filtering), at random times (or after waking up the screen from sleep) the settings window and the tray pop-up open on their own.

Versty avatar Dec 06 '22 16:12 Versty

Correct. Started a week ago. On Dec 6, 2022 at 08:13 -0800, Diana @.***>, wrote:

Same for me too - the settings window will appear once a day, even if I am not directly using Safari (i.e. Safari is running but I'm not interacting with it). I thought that it might be related to the update interval, but even after changing that to 'do not update', the window still re-appears.

joosters avatar Dec 06 '22 20:12 joosters

@einsteinbqat @kristojorg @lyramsr @Perifractic @envague @joosters We have just released the latest beta which prints additional logs related to this issue. You can download it directly from this link or in the TestFlight app. Could you please install the beta, wait for the issue to be reproduced and remember the time when it happened, then export the logs and sent it to our email [email protected] with the number #746?

Versty avatar Dec 13 '22 12:12 Versty

I'll jump in on this and do the same. I've noticed the same.

ghost avatar Dec 14 '22 21:12 ghost

@jslawler Could you send the logs from your device as well? That would be extremely helpful in this case.

Versty avatar Dec 16 '22 08:12 Versty

Same for me. Opens randomly on Ventura for a while now and it's getting annoying. I may switch blockers if there isn't a fix soon.

bauerp avatar Jan 06 '23 14:01 bauerp

Since installing the beta about three weeks ago, I'm no longer seeing this issue

joosters avatar Jan 06 '23 15:01 joosters

I haven't experienced it over the last 3 weeks, I'm on the beta, but I'm not indicating this is resolving the issue.

@bauerp another user on Reddit reinstalled AdGuard for Safari which solved their issue in the short term which may be a resolution for you.

That seemes to have done the trick. Thanks!

Same here

b3z avatar Jan 18 '23 12:01 b3z

@b3z Hi! Could you please update to the latest version (1.11.10) and send logs to to our email [email protected] if the issue persists?

Versty avatar Jan 19 '23 09:01 Versty

Hi @Versty,

I've sent (verbose) logs to [email protected]. Note that the version I have installed is the App Store version, and that I've read that this is unique to the App Store.

ghost avatar Feb 19 '23 08:02 ghost

@jslawler Thank you! Yes, this bug only occurs on the builds from App Store.

Versty avatar Feb 20 '23 07:02 Versty

I also get the Ad Guard for Safari settings display on my first book of the day. Very annoying. Had another case (804) because this didn't seem to come up in the search for me. Now at least I can follow along with this log.

londonroadhog avatar Feb 20 '23 16:02 londonroadhog

This started showing up for me after a recent update to "Version 1.11.11 (build 275, CT 2.0.34)". It's also not the only app that does it now(Drafts as well).

mcg avatar Feb 20 '23 18:02 mcg

I also have the AdGuard window opening up after each restart since updating to 1.11.11. (Mac App Store version)

woefi avatar Feb 22 '23 07:02 woefi

Same problem here.

frederickjjoubert avatar Mar 01 '23 16:03 frederickjjoubert

This is driving me nuts.

veitch123 avatar Mar 03 '23 14:03 veitch123

A temporary fix that only works if you initially installed from the App Store:

1: use a tool like AppCleaner to remove AdGuard and everything associated with the app for a proper fresh start. 2: download the non-app store release version: https://agrd.io/safari_release. 3: install it, let it start on start up and say yes when prompted about doing this automatically next time. 4: reboot and enjoy a pop-up free AdGuard start up, all you see is the icon quickly pop in and out of the dock.

Hope this helps someone!
