DNS blocks connectivitycheck.cbg-app.huawei.com which blocks wifi

Open gkrishnaks opened this issue 5 years ago • 5 comments

AdguardDNS blocks connectivitycheck.cbg-app.huawei.com Due to this, Huawei phone refuses to work in WiFi networks. That domain needs to work in order for the phone to detect wifi connection or redirect to WiFi login page of ISP.

Hi. It is. I pointed to adguard dns and verified from command line (termux app) I pointed to some other dns and then it resolves.

@gkrishnaks could you please open https://dns.adguard.com/info.txt and tell me what's there? It will show what AG DNS server you're connected to

It displayed this : dns-vultr-lon-3 I'm using adguardDNS DOT in Android's private dns setting.

Edit: the above is when I'm on mobile data. This is the one when I disabled DOT, connect to WiFi and then enable DOT and load the info link : dns-vultr-lon-4

Huawei is using a German-based transit / data provider (like Amazon or Google is) for the connectivity check - ecs-80-158-32-152.reverse.open-telekom-cloud.com That provider does not have a good reputation as it's abused in the same way Amazon AWS has become so popular with malicious users since Amazon gives away free tiers / very cheap tiers for them to use.

I'd check if the above reverse.open address is listed. That or the provider itself - open-telekom-cloud.com .
