The internal bug was closed as By Design, so I think this is ours to fix.

This worked before we moved to debugpy, so this should be treated as a regression since we can't support remote debugging without the ability to modify the json that is...

If pylance/repl doesn't support this anymore, then the checkboxes should be removed from options, or it needs to be re-added to PTVS

That would definitely be less work for everyone. Because then I'm just changing the version string being pulled, which is what we already do when overriding to an older version...
