add gigya.com au CDN, used on abc.net.au
cdns.au1.gigya.com
is used for tracking on *.abc.net.au
See also https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=20bqzIoB-Fw (work on investigating abc.net.au)
You are speaking of preventing tracking from abc news and then link to youtube
The YouTube is a video of the research that is being done on ABC tracking ...
I mean, I'm happy to set up my own hosts
list for pihole
, but I'm following what the docs say for reporting additional domains 🤷🏾♀️
Any update on this PR or should I create my own custom blacklist?
probably need to make your own blacklist. Gigya has been known to cause problems when blocked though I wish I could
I may end up adding it, though, since your bringing it up again. I didn't see mention of it in that youtube video you referenced, though. Have you blocked it w/o breakage?
For what it's worth, when I look at a domain such as this, sometimes I download the latest Cisco Umbrella (formerly OpenDNS) top 1 million daily DNS lookups. It's based on hits from their millions of millions of customers' devices worldwide. That way I get a glimpse of a lot of the subdomains they may use to communicate w/ devices.

Open the csv in Notepad++, click CTRL+M to do a search while adding bookmarks, search for gigya & then goto search > bookmark > cut bookmarked lines, and then paste them into a new document.
Then I may search on VirusTotal.com to see if the subdomain shows up there, click on the relations tab & see if, say, Android apps communicate with that subdomain. I just figured I'd pass along some of my methods :) It usually takes me down a rabbit hole, such as seeing their regional CDN's and whatnot.

... while I'm at it, I added those lists to an experimental list here https://github.com/jawz101/subdomain_blocklists
I'll watch it for a while and see if it catches any blocks on my network over time. If you have a pi-hole or other network-wide DNS-based ad blocker on your home network you can add that list and see if it catches any of them
Now I'm looking through an old issue. socialize.*.gigya.com causes breakage According to their documentation, it's used for webpages that let users log into a site w/ various social network logins
https://help.sap.com/docs/SAP_CUSTOMER_DATA_CLOUD/8b8d6fffe113457094a17701f63e3d6a/4172d0a670b21014bbc5a10ce4041860.html?q=socialize
Now I'm just going through that list above and seeing what might cause breakage for some things and what might be related to analytics. It'll take a little time.
ok. I added a chunk of them to the list
https://github.com/AdAway/adaway.github.io/commit/4e37a5c67ddc750295b1a6f5556e8bbde3ce66e1
I am already getting reports of breakages. https://github.com/AdAway/adaway.github.io/issues/351
I may remove them as I hear reports. Otherwise, they will remain.
