"Failed to sync: Failed to install new host file" in root mode

Current Behavior

I installed Adaway and gave it root access using KernelSU. After that, I went to the syncing step, but if fails each time. There is no difference using wifi / mobile data. Switching to a VPN based setup, the files sync fine and the step finishes successfully

Expected Behavior

The files should install without issue

Steps To Reproduce

1. Install AdAway
2. Give root permission using KernelSU NEXT
3. set up AdAway to be in root mode
4. see the sync fail

Device Configuration

• AdAway version: 6.1.4
• Ad-blocker mode: root
• Device: Pixel 8 Pro
• Android version: Android 15, crDroid 11.6
• Root version: kernelSU NEXT
