New logo

Open ErikBjare opened this issue 6 years ago • 13 comments

The logo we have was kind of made in a hurry (took a couple hours) early on just so we'd have something. (Discussion in https://github.com/ActivityWatch/activitywatch/issues/9)

I've thought about this a bit, and have some ideas for an improvement.

Specifically:

  • I want to get rid of the "watch" component, the name is confusing enough
    • Edit: or maybe not? It doesn't really bother me anymore.
  • I want a little (but not too much) color, definitely less white
  • I think a sunburst would look pretty nice

I'm not going to hurry this like last time, but wanted to get this down.

With the "Today view" which actually looks like a analog watch I think it makes more sense than ever to be honest.

The design has kind of grown on me to be honest, but I still feel like it needs improvement.

Remove the icon from the logo & it's great. Then you only have to worry if you've chosen the most icon font for the job – so far, Varela Round looks decent :D

Sorry, should have clarified: When I said logo I really meant icon. So the banner (logo) isn't really what is up for discussion here :)

Mockup suggestion if you're still interested in using a clock:

I just found this thread on reddit. Now that I've seen all the horrible, horrible, logos out there I'm a little bit more comfortable with the current state.

At some point we might make a competition/poll but that is unlikely to happen for a long time.

Also based on the Design and UX of dashboard #257 (Yes I still need to reply there :slightly_smiling_face:) I played around with some logo and design concept proposals:

  • One based on the "time bar" concept
  • One with a :zap: which embodies action and also could stand for a clock, and has the A in it, sort of
  • Another modification of the bar concept with a stylized A and W, but a bit crude

When I discovered Activity Watch, my first thought was.. this needs a new logo. Anyway, @jancborchardt 's electrical arc / letter A icon gave me an idea, so I thought I'd put it here in case it inspires others. The arc/spark can be extended to convey both A and W: activitywatch

Very nice remix @jameskirkwood! :tada: Works very well as a logo.

I saw this issue earlier when researching before submitting my own issue.

I thought that this looked really familiar at the time but couldn't place my finger on it.

I've found it now, its the supabase logo!
