What would your feature do ?

limit the length a filename can have

1. Go to Settings
2. Change the Max Filename Length

it would just be kind of useful, and there's already a max words for prompt_words in folder names, so limiting filenames has a precedent

I agree - with a deep folder hierarchy, Photoshop has sometimes failed to save a modification of a render unless the long-name file is renamed to something shorter. Though Windows has extended its support for very long paths in the past 10-20 years, I'm guessing there are other programs that will struggle with the same issue.
