[Bug]: webui doesn't start if you don't press something on the keyboard

Open van1027 opened this issue 2 years ago • 10 comments

Is there an existing issue for this?

  • [X] I have searched the existing issues and checked the recent builds/commits

What happened?

For the last few days webui doesn't start automatically. You have to press something on the keyboard to continue the startup.

Steps to reproduce the problem

  1. Start the webui-user.bat
  2. Don't press anything
  3. Nothing happens, server doesn't start

What should have happened?

Startup as usual without having to press anything

you're not giving me anything to work with all I can say is that you're not using the latest version you should upgrade to the latest version and do a clean install

w-e-w avatar May 24 '23 12:05 w-e-w

thanks, you are a great helper :) totally useless

van1027 avatar May 24 '23 13:05 van1027

you literally giving me nothing to work with

I don't even know how you're starting webut are are you perhaps double clicking webui-user.bat? using CMD? Powershell? you said you're using Windows, but that could mean lots of things have you tried disabling the extensions because sometimes extensions could do strange things I don't know you what keys you're pressing so that it start working?

only thing I know is that out of the usual is that you're using older version of webUI, so the only advice I can give is to update

I can take a very wild guess if you are using Windows 10 + CMD + webui-user.bat and you have some text selected because it will enter quick edit mode but if you're using Windows 11 then it defaults to Windows terminal which doesn't have any mode pause

is the issue in or out webui? is it a python issue is a terminal issue? or maybe you have some special software running that causes the issue I don't know antivirus wild guess so many possibilities

we are not you we don't sit in front of your computer we don't see what you see we don't know what you do

whe someone tags can't reproduce means that for whatever reason you're not giving enough information and other reproduce the behavior

The above post has the solution:

  1. Right click on the border of the cmd/console window
  2. Under the Options tab/Edit Options uncheck "Quick Edit Mode"
  3. Click OK/Close

That should stop the behavior of Windows waiting for a key to be entered before continuing the webui startup (or dependency installs/etc).

the thing is I have no idea if this is what he's experiencing or he is experiencing something else, it's blind guess

w-e-w avatar May 24 '23 16:05 w-e-w

Almost positive that's what he's talking about. Bugged me too until I asked ChatGPT 4 about it. Hopefully they'll reply and confirm you provided the solution they were seeking.

Not an A1111 issue if that's what is being referred to.

when you click on cmd (command prompt) window it says select and pauses the entire terminal, thats why they dont see any updates or progress. You need to click or type so it will show the console log again

To disable the QuickEdit you need to:

  1. find the webui.bat, right click, create shortcut. Ensure it's in the same folder. Name it webui_shortcut_no_CmdQuickEdit

  2. right click the shortcut, open its properties, switch to the 'Options' tab. Untick QuickEdit Mode.

  3. right click the webui-user.bat -> edit in notepad --> and change the line

call webui.bat

to

start "" "%CD%\webui_shortcut_no_CmdQuickEdit.lnk"
  1. Enjoy :)
