GUI scale changed and looks upscaled and jagged [from Java 8 to 20]

What happened?

  1. I updated my JRE 8 to JDK 20 and run ATLauncher as usual
  2. The loading logo looked jagged and its size was bigger than it was before
  3. The GUI is affected by the same size problem, but the jagged effect is most noticeable looking at the interactive icons such as the social media ones and the question marks, or at the mod icons. Text is generally unaffected, but all elements are upscaled.
  4. Downgrading to Java 8 again fixes the issue.

Additional Information

I'm on a laptop which mounts a 1080p screen. Before the problem presented itself, the GUI was significantly smaller in size, but every element looked like it was at the correct resolution/size ratio. I've found online that a while ago there were complications with the GUI scale for high DPI displays, but this is, in a certain way, the complete opposite thing. Even though in that case the issue was embedded in Java 8 itself, I do not understand how it looked better for me in the "flawed" Java environment (I'm no expert on the matter). Downgrading to Java 8 fixes all of the above. Upon further testing it seems that the launcher GUI changed size (text is scaled correctly and looks fine), but didn't change the resolution of any image along with it. Here are some examples:

Is this actually a launcher bug?

  • [x] I am sure this is a bug with the launcher and not an issue with running Minecraft
