Changing Screen Name breaks Questions & Users page

As an admin, if you change the screen name of another user, it breaks the questions & users page. Maybe those pages are doing a lookup on the screen name for some reason?

What I found is that when "groups" feature is enabled and I edit the user via admin UI I lose display of content, looks like this happens because this changes user group memberships. What did you observe?

Needs more input: contents of settings.py, output of /settings/export/, exception stack trace and version of Askbot.
