Question on handling flows of 360 video content

Open cnorthwood opened this issue 5 years ago • 1 comments

Hi,

I wonder if there could be a way to signal that a flow contains 360 video, and what the projection map for that video is. I wonder if this could be done in a similar way to how HDR is signalled, using an additional field similar to transfer_characteristic, and then the parameter registers used to record the possible projection mappings (a default "identity" mapping for traditional square pixels, then equirectangular, Google's EAC, Facebook's Pyramid etc...).

As a non-AMWA member, is there a better way to bring this up than the GitHub, or is this something that'd need to come from an AMWA member to be considered?

Thanks

Hi Chris. Thanks for the suggestion. This is certainly something we could look at adding, the biggest challenge is having time to fully explore the subject and make sure any proposal will stand the test of time.

I'd suggest that this is the best place for non-AMWA members to contribute suggestions, but it may require an AMWA member to pick it up in order to ensure its inclusion in a future version of the spec.
