I liked that idea. the power to give a proper credit to the contributors of the individual features will also give another incentive for new contributors.

I particularly like this line in their readme:

funding — to point to the sources of funding which provided support for a given functionality implementation and/or method development

If we set things up so that the output of our batch commands automatically generate not just a bibliography but also a grant acknowledgement text then I think we'd have something really powerful. I was kidding about it today on the call, but I do agree with your point @fedorov that collecting this information is very important to meeting NIH expectations.
