A few more simple settings for the clock

Open Dorro101 opened this issue 1 year ago • 3 comments

Is your feature request related to a problem?

The few themes available for the clock do not appeal to my minimalist design aesthetic.

Describe the solution you'd like

A few simple settings for the clock would solve this. Settings for custom font, one for hours, one for minutes, custom size, one for hours, one for minutes and transparency, one for hours, one for minutes and an option to hide the colon. I like a single colour for all text, predicated by the wallpaper, so no need for settings for colour.

Feature Request Procedure

Thanks for suggesting this change to the clock-style options. Sadly, this does not adhere to our design principles and thus won't be added.

The two principles speaking against this change are: Simple: It is easy to configure and easy to use. As few settings & toggles as possible. Impactful: It is either appealing for many or necessary for some. Niagara Launcher's Design Principles

We recommend using a custom clock widget instead.

If you want to personalize your clock even more, you can replace the clock with a widget of your choice:

Go to the bottom of the all apps list > Niagara settings > Features > Niagara Widget > Add custom widget. After choosing your widget, long press on it on your home screen and tap on "Replace clock with widget." You can also make your own custom clock widget using the app KWGT, for example.

Hi

Thanks for the reply. Seems overly complicated. Perhaps you could include a simple Bauhaus style clock theme sans colon, as the few picks available are lacking anything simply sophisticated. Inter font would be a good choice, closely resembles HelveticaNeue and includes a full range of weights, and has a reasonable usage licence.

Ciao Dorian

While adding a custom clock is more complicated than selecting one of our included clock styles, adding too many customization options would increase the complexity for all Niagara Launcher users, so we are wary of adding toggles and settings.

However, we do plan on adding more clock styles in the future, and the one you proposed sounds great. After a quick search, I am unsure what exactly you mean when referring to "Bauhaus style clock". Could you send me a picture as an example? A quick thing I threw together is this: image

For custom clock size, please refer to #2980
