There's a Python-based alternative that might work, you might wanna look at the 86Box Discord server for more info.

The Python-based alternative has at least 2 show-stopper bugs:

• on start, if you don't create the configuration folder manually, it will not even start properly
• after running the configuration dialog, it proclaims that the 86box configuration dialog did not even run and ditches all settings (fun).
