Simpler options could have been cbz(=zip) or just image folders.

mcomix can use image folders. The latest version of zathura can use image folders. A lot of comic viewers can open cbz files, including these two.

lol, i've seen a "format" that consist of all the pages concatenated in a single extremely tall image like a rubbon.... But a lot of viewers don't expect a weird thing like that...
