Improve Fritzbox compatibility

Telephone seems to be the most sleek and minimal (in the positive meaning) app I could find. Unfortunately in combination with an AVM Fritzbox the user experience is currently rather low. IMHO we have at least the following topics to improve:

  • [ ] Support all HD codecs instead of limiting codecs to G.711 only #68
  • [ ] Support internal call transfers
  • [ ] Support Fritzbox address book (although a web research only reveals articles explaining that this is not implemented on the Fritzbox side)

Probably there is more.

Are there plans to improve those topics? For example the current solution to force G.711 as codec works and reduces the call quality (compared to e.g. Zoiper). Being able to select the codecs to use for a SIP account would probably already help here.

Some but not all FritzBox models has a codec negotiation problem which probably occurs only under specific circumstances. Making the list of codecs configurable would overcome the problem, but this is really a bug in FritzBox, and as mentioned above, not in all models and/or firmware versions. In general, people reported HD codecs working with FritzBox. For those models that have problems, changing codec priority on the FitzBox side could also overcome the problem, but his is just a guess.

Do the internal call transfers not work? This is new for FritzBox. However, maybe it’s just nobody has complained to it so far. How exactly does it not work for you?

Because Telephone is a standard SIP softphone, I didn’t have plans adding a special FritzBox address book support.
