Convert ST files to STA files.

Many documents were processed in previous versions of the ST program (before the appearance of STA). In order to be able to apply new features in STA and not perform again time-consuming operations (editing the useful area manually), it would be nice if the files created by ST are opened by STA. Or make some kind of separate file converter. (Machine translate).

This has already been requested in #34. 4lex4 closed the issue with no further comment, so I guess it's not going to happen.

I always delete all the intermediate files when I finish processing. I'm not sure why one would keep the old ST project files around, as well as the original pages. But to each its own.

Hi Piolie,

I am not the original poster, but I keep the original input files and *.ScanTailor files, too.

We use ScanTailor to process book scans for digital preservation and access. This work is often does by entry-level employees who occasionally make mistakes. In this case, it is a simple matter to re-process the originals files. Common examples are improper Select Content or Output settings.

The introduction of project settings has cut back on many of these errors; the most often now are Mixed output files with no picture zones that should have been Black-and-White and poorly selected Picture Zones.

A few days ago, I found an opportunity to significantly improve the quality of processing due to the presence of new functions in STA (compared to ST). I wanted to be able to transfer at least part of the work done.

I too save all my projects and ST(A) files. I started with ST, and have gone through several of the other versions. Which means I have several older .ScanTailor files which aren't compatible with each other. A lot has changed since I started, and STA yields better results and less post work. Several of my older projects have been remade from scratch using STA, having had the compatibility would have saved me hours.

Like Jeremy said, one finds mistakes, but also improvements, and for preservation work one needs the best result in the highest quality.
