Missing empty line between quote and answer breaks Markdown

When a quoted line plus an answer is bridged from a non-markdown-savvy system to a markdown-savvy system, the answer is included in the quote. Here is an example of XMPP bridged to Matrix:

This can be mitigated by adding an empty line between the quote and the answer.
