Handling translations
This is vague and will encompass many things, but it's worth recording some thoughts on the best way to include translated content into the site. Honestly, this is more about managing the 3blue1brown YT channel(s) than the website development, but there is some crossover.
- There are numerous dubbed versions of the videos (see here), and it would be elegant to allow users viewing a post with an embedded video at the top to select a language when the dubbing is available.
- This might mean adding more metadata to an article indicating the URLs of translations.
- Since the content on Bilibili is pretty comprehensive, there might be value to embedding those.
- I need to find a good tool to manage crowd-sourcing subtitle contributions to YouTube videos, but once that's in place, we should have a place on the site that clearly points people to it and invites contribution. At the very least this could be the FAQ, but it may make sense to place it elsewhere.
- If people want to submit translations of the articles, it may be worth having a means of allowing that (or finding a tool to help crowdsource reviews of it), then add the ability to toggle between languages for the written version of each post.
A lot of this is people/community work, but on the technical side, Next has built-in support for internationalized routing.
We will have to think about whether assets (images/videos) should be shared between translated versions, or if each version has its own set of assets (which would greatly increase storage but not bandwidth).
